A lot of people who don’t have much experience with websites think the way to get lots of traffic and high ranking in Google and other search engines is to set up lots of “link farms” on their site. This was never a good strategy and Google’s recent changes to the way they rank sites has made it even less useful.
There is no shortcut to creating a popular site with lots of legitimate visitors that comes up in searches for the topic you deal with. It’s all about good content and genuine marketing. It doesn’t work to use “gimmicks” – your website needs to be somewhere that people want and need to go. It doesn’t matter how many irrelevant sites link to you – if there’s nothing there worth staying for your site wont benefit.
One of the better ways to drive traffic to your site and increase it’s popularity is through taking advantage of the social networking sites on the net, such as Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. These sites are fantastic for networking online, much as “word-of-mouth” is vital in the “real” world. You don’t need to spend a lot of time working on all these sites – you can fairly easily link your existing wordpress site into these networks using plugins, clever marketing nouse and good content.
